Merrie Nell Spence enjoys a varied career in the areas of acting, singing, hosting, musical theater, and improv. Although she loves life in the "Big City" of NYC, she will always be a Texas girl at heart.
From a very young age Merrie Nell knew that she was going to be a "Broadway Baby". She started dancing at 2 years old and was singing from the time she could talk. Her first starring role came as "The Little Red Hen" in her first grade musical at The Hockaday School of Dallas . People still come up to her today who cannot forget her as this role and ask to hear her Mother Hen Cackle!
Merrie Nell performed locally while growing up in Dallas, and then studied acting at the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU where she appeared in numerous campus productions while also continuing to perform with local theaters in the Dallas area. During her senior year at SMU Merrie Nell performed in roles at Dallas Theatre Center ("South Pacific"), Dallas Children's Theater ("You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown"), Garland Musical Theater ("Smoke On The Mountain"), in addition to a speaking role in a Hollywood film shot in Dallas and which was featured at the U.S.A. Film Festival.
Just two weeks after graduating from SMU with her BFA degree, Merrie Nell began working for "The Mouse", having accepted a position as a professional actress performing comedy improv at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Working in all four of Disney World's theme parks as well as at resorts and conventions enabled Merrie Nell to hone her skills in improv, musical theater, and dance. She also discovered her love for hosting while performing as host and emcee for Disney's corporate events and conventions.
Merrie Nell always knew, however, that New York was where she belonged. So, she bid "Adieu" to Orlando and headed to "The Big Apple." And that's where she is today! Between acting, singing, and hosting locally as well as across the country, this "Texas Girl" is a busy one!
